Waiting On Wednesday (11)

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

Title: The Essence

Author: Kimberly Derting

Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry

Release Date: January 1st 2013

“Danger, dread, mystery, and romance” (Booklist) continue in the second book of The Pledge trilogy, as Charlie’s reign is under siege from the most unusual of enemies.

At the luminous conclusion of The Pledge, Charlaina defeated the tyrant Sabara and took her place as Queen of Ludania. But Charlie knows that Sabara has not disappeared: The evil queen’s Essence is fused to Charlie’s psyche, ready to arise at the first sign of weakness.

Charlie is not weak, but she’s being pushed to the brink. In addition to suppressing the ever-present influence of Sabara, she’s busy being queen—and battling a growing resistance determined to return Ludania to its discriminatory caste system. Charlie wants to be the same girl Max loves, who Brook trusts, but she’s Your Majesty now, and she feels torn in two.

As Charlie journeys to an annual summit to meet with leaders of nearby Queendoms—an event where her ability to understand all languages will be the utmost asset—she is faced with the ultimate betrayal. And the only person she can turn to for help is the evil soul residing within.

It’s the sequel to The Pledge! I signed up for this book tour and I’m so siked to get my hands on it. We left off with Charlie defeating the evil Queen Sabara and taking over. We thought Sabara was gone, but we’re in for a surprise: she’s not completely gone. I can’t believe that she’s still alive and I’m wondering how Charlie will handle it. Plus, Charlie is betrayed by someone very close to her and it makes you wonder who did it and what the betrayal was. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!

Title: Altered

Author: Jennifer Rush

Publisher: Little, Brown & Co.

Release Date: January 2nd 2013

When you can’t trust yourself, who can you believe?

Everything about Anna’s life is a secret. Her father works for the Branch at the helm of its latest project: monitoring and administering treatments to the four genetically altered boys in the lab below their farmhouse. There’s Nick, Cas, Trev . . . and Sam, who’s stolen Anna’s heart. When the Branch decides it’s time to take the boys, Sam stages an escape, killing the agents sent to retrieve them.

Anna is torn between following Sam or staying behind in the safety of her everyday life. But her father pushes her to flee, making Sam promise to keep her away from the Branch, at all costs. There’s just one problem. Sam and the boys don’t remember anything before living in the lab—not even their true identities.

Now on the run, Anna soon discovers that she and Sam are connected in more ways than either of them expected. And if they’re both going to survive, they must piece together the clues of their past before the Branch catches up to them and steals it all away.

OK. Your dad works for the Branch. He takes care of four genetically altered boys in a lab below your farmhouse. You’ve fallen for one of these boys. The Branch has come for the boys, but they escape and you go with them. Yeah, that’s Anna’s life. It’s quite insane if I must say so myself. And, that’s not all! The four boys and Anna are still on the run from the Branch! So, what’s up with the connection between Anna and Sam, the boy she’s fallen for? Don’t you want to find out? I for sure do!

Title: Prophecy

Author: Ellen Oh

Publisher: HarperTeen

Release Date: January 2nd 2013

The greatest warrior in all of the Seven Kingdoms… is a girl with yellow eyes.

Kira’s the only female in the king’s army, and the prince’s bodyguard. She’s a demon slayer and an outcast, hated by nearly everyone in her home city of Hansong. And, she’s their only hope…

Murdered kings and discovered traitors point to a demon invasion, sending Kira on the run with the young prince. He may be the savior predicted in the Dragon King Prophecy, but the missing treasure of myth may be the true key. With only the guidance of the cryptic prophecy, Kira must battle demon soldiers, evil shaman, and the Demon Lord himself to find what was once lost and raise a prince into a king.

Intrigue and mystery, ancient lore and action-packed fantasy come together in this heart-stopping first book in a trilogy.

Kira sounds like a totally kick ass heroine and I can’t wait to learn more about her! Plus, what’s up with the Dragon King Prophecy? What is it? Personally, I cannot wait for the promise of action and mystery in this book!

Title: Broken

Author: A.E. Rought

Publisher: Strange Chemistry

Release Date: January 3rd 2013

Imagine a modern spin on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein where a young couple’s undying love and the grief of a father pushed beyond sanity could spell the destruction of them all.

A string of suspicious deaths near a small Michigan town ends with a fall that claims the life of Emma Gentry’s boyfriend, Daniel. Emma is broken, a hollow shell mechanically moving through her days. She and Daniel had been made for each other, complete only when they were together. Now she restlessly wanders the town in the late Fall gloom, haunting the cemetery and its white-marbled tombs, feeling Daniel everywhere, his spectre in the moonlight and the fog.

When she encounters newcomer Alex Franks, only son of a renowned widowed surgeon, she’s intrigued despite herself. He’s an enigma, melting into shadows, preferring to keep to himself. But he is as drawn to her as she is to him. He is strangely… familiar. From the way he knows how to open her locker when it sticks, to the nickname she shared only with Daniel, even his hazel eyes with brown flecks are just like Daniel’s.

The closer they become, though, the more something inside her screams there’s something very wrong with Alex Franks. And when Emma stumbles across a grotesque and terrifying menagerie of mangled but living animals within the walls of the Franks’ estate, creatures she surely knows must have died from their injuries, she knows.

The first thing that caught my eye was the cover. Then, I read the description and I was mind-blown! It sounds so creepy! So, Emma’s boyfriend dies and she meets Alex who is uncannily similar to Daniel, her dead boyfriend! That’s not all! In Alex’s house, there are living animals that should be dead! Ahh!! How creepy! But, I just have to know what is going on!

What books are you waiting on?
