Recommend A… Book With a Blue Cover

Recommend A… is a weekly meme is hosted by Chick Loves Lit where we can recommend books to our readers!

We’re only supposed to do one book for this meme, but I couldn’t help it… Also, blue is my favorite color… So, I’m going to break the rules and do a couple books this time! 😀 –> Also, I’m driving back home from my cross country retreat (1O HOURS)!!!

Title: Divergent

Author: Veronica Roth

Publisher: Harper Collins

In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue–Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is–she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are–and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she’s chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she’s kept hidden from everyone because she’s been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.
My Thoughts:

I really really HOPE that all of you have already read this amazing, out-of-this-world book!!! And, if you follow my blog or know me, you know how much I love dystopian, especially Divergent!!! But, just in case, I HAD to put this book down!! The world Veronica Roth created is astounding! The five different factions is such a great idea and I loved reading about the ways of the Dauntless. Plus, the way she writes is so beautiful! I have so many favorite quotes from Divergent!!! OK, I’m going to have to stop fan girling about this book right now. But, seriously, READ THIS BOOK NOW IF YOU HAVEN’T!!! You’re missing out majorly! NOW, GO READ IT!!!

Title: The Fault In Our Stars

Author: John Green

Publisher: Dutton Books

Diagnosed with Stage IV thyroid cancer at 13, Hazel was prepared to die until, at 14, a medical miracle shrunk the tumours in her lungs… for now.

Two years post-miracle, sixteen-year-old Hazel is post-everything else, too; post-high school, post-friends and post-normalcy. And even though she could live for a long time (whatever that means), Hazel lives tethered to an oxygen tank, the tumours tenuously kept at bay with a constant chemical assault.

Enter Augustus Waters. A match made at cancer kid support group, Augustus is gorgeous, in remission, and shockingly to her, interested in Hazel. Being with Augustus is both an unexpected destination and a long-needed journey, pushing Hazel to re-examine how sickness and health, life and death, will define her and the legacy that everyone leaves behind.

My Thoughts:

One of the best reads of this summer! I recently review The Fault In Our Stars and it was such a stunningly amazing book. It is a definite must read that will having you crying and laughing the whole time! And, you will absolutely fall head over heels with the characters & their story.

Title: Bitterblue

Author: Kristin Cashore

Publisher: Dial

Eight years after Graceling, Bitterblue is now queen of Monsea. But the influence of her father, a violent psychopath with mind-altering abilities, lives on. Her advisors, who have run things since Leck died, believe in a forward-thinking plan: Pardon all who committed terrible acts under Leck’s reign, and forget anything bad ever happened. But when Bitterblue begins sneaking outside the castle—disguised and alone—to walk the streets of her own city, she starts realizing that the kingdom has been under the thirty-five-year spell of a madman, and the only way to move forward is to revisit the past.

Two thieves, who only steal what has already been stolen, change her life forever. They hold a key to the truth of Leck’s reign. And one of them, with an extreme skill called a Grace that he hasn’t yet identified, holds a key to her heart.

My Thoughts:

Although Bitterblue was not my favorite book in The Graceling Realm series I would still recommend it to people. And, if you’ve read Graceling before you should definitely read it! Plus, Kristin Cashore’s books are so well-written that you will love to read what she writes no matter the subject.

Title: Pure

Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout

Publisher: Spencer Hill Press

There is need. And then there is Fate…

Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn’t exactly awesome–especially when Alexandria’s “other half” is everywhere she goes. Seth’s in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom–so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do–and sacrifice–for her.

When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies–lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon… and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn’t blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude… or killing her.

When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

My Thoughts:

I love JLA!! She is such a fun writer! Alex is an extremely kick-ass character who never fails to put a smile onto my face. And, then there’s *sighs dreamily* Aiden who is so sweet & caring! He just said the most sweetest things to Alex throughout Pure. Also, there’s a lot of Seth in Pure. Alex + Seth = quite the interesting read that is full of witty insults! All JLA fans will love this book for sure!

What are your favorite books with blue covers?

Some great choices. I loved The Fault in Our Stars and Bitterblue is in my TBR stack. I’m a new Jennifer L. Armentrout fan. Obsidian was so much fun. I want to read her other series 🙂
