*spoiler alert for those who haven’t read the Hex Hall series beforehand*
Hailed as “impossible to put down,” the Hex Hall series has both critics and teens cheering. With a winning combination of romance, action, magic and humor, this third volume will leave readers enchanted.
Just as Sophie Mercer has come to accept her extraordinary magical powers as a demon, the Prodigium Council strips them away. Now Sophie is defenseless, alone, and at the mercy of her sworn enemies—the Brannicks, a family of warrior women who hunt down the Prodigium. Or at least that’s what Sophie thinks, until she makes a surprising discovery. The Brannicks know an epic war is coming, and they believe Sophie is the only one powerful enough to stop the world from ending. But without her magic, Sophie isn’t as confident.
Sophie’s bound for one hell of a ride—can she get her powers back before it’s too late?
Wow! I can’t believe this series is over! I can remember when I read Hex Hall for the first time two years ago and fell in love with this series. It makes me want to cry when I think about how this was Sophie’s last adventure, but I loved the ending!
Well, Spellbound started off with answering all the questions Demonglass left us with. And, we got to learn a lot about Sophie’s mom and the information was unbelievable! I don’t want to give anything away, but I did not see that coming! And, Sophie’s mom’s secret added a great twist to the story.
Oh, Sophie! She is the main reason I fell for this series! I just love her! She’s spunky, sassy, brave, and just overall awesome! And, you just can’t get enough of her comebacks, jokes, and comments! They always lighten up the mood and make me want to roll on the floor laughing. I’m going to miss reading about her new adventures!
ARCHER!!! He was so sweet in Spellbound! You really got to see a softer side of him when he was with Sophie. And, you can’t help falling for him! (TEAM ARCHER!!!) And, I love how he’s always firing back these hilarious comments at the most random of moments. When I think about Archer from Hex Hall to Archer in Spellbound you can really see how much he’s changed and how much he loves Sophie. It just always brings a smile to my face when I think about it.
Also, Sophie’s got an amazing vampire best friend, Jenna, who’s always got her back and will through hell for her! Their friendship was has always been fun to read about since the first book. And, Eloide, the ghost who’s connected to Sophie, was actually a good character in Spellbound! In the previous books, I absolutely did NOT like Eloide at all, but this time around I found her uncaring, blunt manner refreshing. I actually surprisingly enjoyed her character.
Towards the end, Spellbound was a bit faster paced than I would have liked, but it didn’t take away from the book at all. And, I really enjoyed how Rachel Hawkins wrapped up the Hex Hall series. It was a great ending!
Overall, Spellbound was an incredible ending to an EPIC series! Spellbound went at a nice pace while never leaving you bored. It’s a hard book to put down because all you’ll want to do is find out what happens next! I’m so sad to say goodbye to this series, but I can’t wait for future books Rachel Hawkins will write!
